John Devereaux
Level 4 Certified Coach
John is coming off his third trip to USA Hockey's National Championships in his seventh year of coaching .
After twice leading College of the Canyons to the ACHA Nationals at the collegiate level including a pair of PCHA Championships, John brought the first year Heat program to National prominence, winning the Regional Championships and taking the16AA Heat to Nationals in the inaugural year of the program he helped to create. The team finished #1 in California, won the Labor Day shoot-out in San Jose, The Christmas Extravaganza in Ontario and the Pacific Regional Championships on their way to Nationals.
As a collegian, John received a scholarship to Boston College where the team won three Hockey East Championships, a Hockey East Play-off Championship and a Final Four appearance. John was awarded the John "Schnooks" Kelly award as the player who "most typifies" BC athletics.
John received the honor of being voted Captain of the Boston College Hockey team for the 1987-88 season.
John received a Bachelor's Degree from the highly acclaimed Boston College School of Management in 1988.
John played eight years as a professional in the AHL, IHL, ECHL and the WCHL. He showed leadership skills being named captain to 4 different professional teams, The Winston-Salem Thunderbirds, Greensboro Monarchs, The Reno Renegades and the Bakersfield Fog. In 1989, John led the Winston-Salem T-Birds to the East Coast League Championship, leading the team in scoring.
John was drafted by the Hartford Whalers (currently Carolina Hurricanes) in the 1984 NHL entry draft.
As a coach, John has pioneered the local hockey community by founding and taking a President role with the North Valley Tigers organization. Subsequently, John was an integral part of starting the Vipers Tier program and becoming an integral part, rejuvenating the West Valley Wolves tier program. John runs numerous hockey camps and has worked with some of the best in the business including including Paul Vincent's Dynamic Skating and Bobby Hull, Jr. shooting school.
